Wheel and Tire Maintenance for SUV

Your SUV’s wheels and tires are one the most essential parts of your vehicle. Because SUVs are 4WD, it can go through any terrain that the planet could offer. And when it does, the tires and wheels of your SUV do not just obviously help you to reach your destination because it is the major equipment that makes your vehicle move. However, the functions of the wheels and tires do not just end there. These parts also emphasize the overall appearance of your vehicle. Moreover, the wheels can actually improve your cars performance just by effective cleaning. Like any other car parts, SUV wheels can eventually be corrosive and tires could wear out because of certain factors.

Getting your SUV perfectly cleaned on a local car wash is a great idea. However, the only drawback of it is the cost that you would be spending in a car wash. Why go to a car wash if you could clean your wheels by yourself, right? So here are some few guides in effective cleaning and maintenance of your vehicle’s wheels and tires.

Before we proceed to the cleaning session, first you should know the factors that made your wheels and tires unpleasant. Whenever you use your SUV for a long travel or even in a short trip, dust particles attack the surface of your wheels. Other unwanted dirt on your wheels and tires include road tars, mud, and different soil crumbs. Acid rain and winter salt are effective destroyers that can make your wheels brittle.

Cleaning your wheels and tires is actually the first step in car washing. You should first select a certain cleaner for your wheels and tires. There are a lot of cleaning agents out in the market today but you should choose the safest and most effective cleaning agent for your wheels and tires. Some cleaning agent contains a high level of acidity and can easily damage your wheels. Acid-free cleaners are effective cleaning agents that are commonly used by car wash shops. The most common cleaner is the household detergent because you can find it anywhere in your kitchen, or toilette, of course. Not only that, detergent is also effective and is the safest cleaner because it does not contain any harmful ingredients that can affect your car. Wheels and tires of SUVs are much larger and broader than other vehicles so the cleaning process most likely will take longer compared to sedans.

Now let us start with the cleaning process. First, you should check your tires for road dirt and mud. If you found one, then scrape it with any hard object you can find in your place, but be careful not to scratch your tires so hard. Dilute your chosen cleaner in a bucket of water and then start brushing your tires. The grooves of your tires are the most susceptible to mud and road tars. Brush it effectively. After cleaning your tires, proceed to the wheels. Rinse the brush that you had used in your tires and start brushing your wheels in up and down motion. Pretty easy, right? You should actually clean your wheels and tires once a month for maintenance.

Custom Matched Custom Wheels

Custom wheels can make a big difference in a car, truck or SUV. They offer improved handling and a beautiful appearance. Because of this, auto enthusiasts have been upgrading to custom wheels for years, replacing basic steel wheels and hubcaps on their vehicle to set them apart from others and to provide a smoother ride.

Most Custom wheel manufacturers offer chrome, aluminum and alloy wheels in their inventories. They also have been offering custom wheels in colors such as the very popular silver along with bronze, gun metal, gold, anthracite, white, black and gray.
The custom wheels industry is growing and as it grows it gives us more and more choices including the hottest trend in the market today, custom painted wheels or color matched custom wheels. For the most part this trend is popular among owners of small import tuner cars and small trucks. Several manufacturers of custom wheels such as XXR, ACE now offer color matched custom wheels in two toning or color and chrome. These two and three piece custom wheels have a color matched center and a chrome or machined lip. MOMO, Paladin, Hipnotic wheels offers a custom wheel with removable insets on the spokes that are intended to be custom painted to match the vehicles color or any other color you choose. Some custom wheels are offered with small color matched center caps.

The most popular of the color matched custom wheels are wheels that are painted or powdered coated to match the color of a vehicle. In this case the entire wheel is painted or powdered coated. Color matched custom wheels can be ordered from on line custom wheel vendors, such as Victoria Tire & Wheel. Just give us your vehicles color code and we will have your wheels painted prior to shipment. Another option is to purchase a set of painted silver custom rims of your choice and have them re-painted or powdered coated locally.

Plus Custom Wheel Tech

When choosing a set of custom wheels for your car, truck or SUV remember these five points. (1) You can choose the manufacturer! (2) You can choose the style and/or model! (3) You can choose the finish! (4) You can choose where purchased! and (5) Let the experts choose the size of the custom wheel and tire, the backspacing, negative or positive offset, bolt circle diameter and centerbore.

Your supplier, whether they are local or on the Internet, has the expertise to make the right choice. They have access to manufacturers specifications either by computer programs or printed manuals. However, below are a few technical term and definitions you should be familiar with.

Low Profile Tires - tires that are wider and have shorter but stronger sidewalls.

Plus Sizing - is mounting tires that are wider and have a shorter sidewall on larger diameter custom wheels.

Mounting Surface - refers to the back side of the wheel that touches the disk/drum.

Backspacing - is defined as the measurement from the inside of the rim edge to the wheel mounting surface.

Wheel Centerline - an imaginary line that is equal to both outer rims of a wheel.

Zero offset - means that the wheel centerline and wheel hub mounting surface measurements to both outer rims of a wheel are equal.

Positive Offset - means the mounting surface of the wheel is positioned in front or street side of the true centerline of the wheel.

FWD - Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles.

Negative Offset - means that the wheel mounting surface is positioned behind the true centerline of the wheel.

RWD - Negative offset wheels are generally found on rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles.

Deep Dish - another term for negative offset or RWD wheels.

Bolt Pattern - wheels usually have either a 4, 5 or 6 bolt pattern or circle.

Center Bore - The hole in the center of a custom wheel.

Hub Centric - the center hole is precisely sized where it meets the wheel hub and supports the vehicle’s weight.

Lug Centric - the lug nut supports the vehicle’s weight.

Hub rings - are used to center the center bore hole in a wheel to the hub of the drum or disc brake.

Wheel Adapter - changes the bolt pattern of your vehicle's hub and moves the wheel out. (Not recommended)

The technical terms are many and some are hard to understand. You choose how "cool" your custom wheels look and leave the tech stuff to our experts.

Custom Wheels

Cars do not work too well without quality wheels. Wheels secure the performance of the car and the safety of the occupants. This is the reason why a car purchaser should know the elements that make wheels outstanding.
Wheels come in a wide-variety of choices. Magnesium alloy, chrome, steel, and aluminum are some of the choices. Nonetheless, the most famous among them is Magnesium alloy wheels or "mag wheels." These wheels are commonly used on racing cars for better performance. This is because magnesium alloy wheels are lighter than steel or aluminum wheels.
Magnesium alloy wheels are produced by hot forging from magnesium alloys ZK60 and MA-14. The typical weight of a magnesium alloy wheel is approximately 8 to 12 kilograms, depending on the car model. Drawbacks of this type of wheel include the high price and the difficulty of recycling. Hence, it is not practical most street cars.
Steel wheels, on the other hand, are the most convenient tire package especially during winter. They are usually available in black and silver finish. Styling is made easier by using updated wheel covers. Compared to other alloys, steel wheels are more affordable. Steel is preferred by automakers because it is easy to manufacture and it reduces material costs.
Wheels also vary in size. People who are serious about their cars are aware that the size of the wheel is crucial to the performance of the vehicle. The primary effect of altering the wheel diameter is the need to change the gears to adjust the ratio of engine speed to wheel rotation speed. This is because the bigger the wheels are, the slower the car become. Nonetheless, the acceleration and top speed of a car do not solely depend on the wheel diameter if the gear ratio is optimized for that particular diameter. Larger wheels will not be affected by small road bumps.
Quality wheels must have routine maintenance to keep them in perfect working condition.

2008 Audi RS6 Avant

Are you looking for a family car that has speed as well as great looks? If so, then the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant is a car that you should be considering. Sure, when most people think of wagons, they think of huge cars that are not much in the way of performance, but this new Audi Avant will definitely change any idea that you may have of a station wagon. Basically this RS6 is basically the same as the Audi S6 version; however, it does come along with a few extras that the S6 doesn't have. Audi has definitely done a great job of combining family wagon with a sports car drive. So, if you have the need for speed but you want room for the entire family, this is a car you may want to give a second look.
If you take a close look under the hood of the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant, you'll find that there is a Lamborghini derived V-10 engine that has direct injection. In the RS6 you'll also find two small turbochargers as well, which jumps the power from the 435 horse power of the Audi S65 to 550 horsepower instead. So, this is the most power sedan that Audi has ever built, and to top that, it is now one of the most powerful four door vehicles ever made at all. Of course when it comes to station wagons, the RS6 definitely take the title for the most powerful one. When it comes to powerful sedans, this car is supposed to be smoother than its' competition when it comes to the use of the power and the ride of the car.
The 2008 Audi RS6 Avant also boasts a Tiptronic transmission as well as the special Audi Quattro all wheel drive as well. While the S6 can do 0-60 in a 5.1 second period of time, which isn't too shabby, the new RS6 is expected to cut this time down to about 4 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour. This car also will come without a speed limiter as well, so it will do well beyond the 155 mph carp that the S6's have. Take a close look at the suspension and you'll find that this suspension is quite stiff. The new RS6 Avant also boasts well ventilated brakes as well and carbon ceramic rotors are probably coming as part of the package as well.
Not only is this a fast and high performance wagon, but this is also a great looking car as well. It has a beautiful design that is sleek and stylish. While this car does not have the huge, billowing appearance that some of the older Audi's tend to have, it does feature some 4-style fender lips as well as some special window trip and silver mirror caps. Also there is a small lip spoiler on the car as well and if you look closely you'll see the dual exhaust pipes coming out from the back.
On the inside of the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant you'll find all the luxury that you have come to expect from the Audi name. The interior is definitely a step up above the S6 and you can begin to see where those "extras" come into play with the RS6. The seats are sporty and boast nappa leather. Carbon fiber trim is used in the vehicle and the shift paddles are aluminum. The dash top is attractive and made of leather and you'll notice that the steering wheel is a flat bottom one.
Of course with all the excellent features of it comes a pretty hefty price tag, falling just a bit short of $100,000. In spite of the high price tag, this is a great car to consider if you are looking for a luxury family car that is just packed full of power. It comfortably seats five people, so you'll be sure to get the whole family in comfortably. Most of all, no matter where you are going, you'll be sure to get there quickly with the fastest wagon out there on the market today. So, for those looking for a family car that is packed full of great options and power, the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant is definitely a car to consider.
